Okkkk, I wouldn’t normally post the exact same fucking thing almost twice in a row (only broken up by the La Sylphide On A Dude Ranch), but I feel like I owe it to this pattern to show y’all that it also totally rocks in a neutral/solid fabric. Like a gorgeous little backdrop in wooly wrapped goodness.
Again, this is the Coppélia pattern – this time sewn up in a dreamy, drapey wool knit. I’m not sure exactly what this fabric is; I bought it at the giant fabric sale last week and the bolt said it was a wool blend. My burn test seemed to indicate that it was pure wool – or at least blended with something natural, as the ash was not that sticky hard horrid bead of death that you usually get when you burn polyester. At any rate, it’s warm and snuggly and soft, and the texture almost looks like gauze when you hold it up to the light. Pretty!
Also, let the record show that my wool version was birthed because Katie said she was making a bunch of these in merino knits and I got jealous and decided to copy her. SORRY NOT SORRY.
Can someone explain to me why it is so difficult to find wool knits in the first place, though? Especially in not-neutral colors. What I reeeeally wanted was the emerald green wool jersey I found at Textile a couple of months ago (and not because emerald is the new ~color of the year~, but more so because I look bomb ass in emerald, trufax), but it was $30 a yard and I was holding out for the 40% sale, except it sold out at some point between those dates and now I am a sad person and SOMEONE FIND ME JEWEL COLORS OF WOOL JERSEY PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
Black is good, though. I feel like such a lady.

I tried to take motion pictures to show the no-gape in all it’s glory, but my hair was in the way for most of them. Here is… something.
This one fits a little different than the Disco Queen version… mostly because the fabric is much stretchier. I really like it; it’s very comfortable and slouchy without actually being sloppy. Look at how much longer the ties are when they stretch!

I love this version. Very classy, Ladybird, very classy. I, too, have looked all over for wool jersey, and I actually found some in, wait for it, *color*, but alas not emerald green, which I would love to have. I look fantastic in gem colors as well, pastels are for anyone but me. Don’t minimize the look of neutrals on you. Bet you would look good in winter white. Anyway, her is the link for colors.

Weird question: have you ever bought this specific fabric from Fabric Mart? I’ve never had a good experience with their fabrics (I recall ordering something that claimed to be wool and getting a fabric that was clearly polyester, ugh), so I’m hesitant to order from them again.
I have to admit that I’ve bought tons of fabric from them, and have had maybe three really useless buys, which I should have known. I tend to buy the “designer” fabrics when they’re really discounted so have gotten some really beautiful stuff for nothing. I haven’t bought this but I have bought some other wool knit that was beautiful — in fact, I was looking for it for you because it’s a beautiful shade of dark green. But, they’re out. They are pretty nice folks and would probably take things back. So, I’d take a chance. And, you know, I bought a beautiful knit fabric from my Local for about 25.00 a yard. It was clearly marked cotton and when I decided to dye it deep red and it turned washed out salmon, I realize these mistakes happen everywhere…..Let me know if you decide to order from them and good luck!
They also have some wool jersey at Mood, but it has a bit of lycra in it. Is that a problem for this top? They have some in grass green, pretty! I was born to be a personal shopper, what can I say? LMAO

Haha! Andrew WK is a singer/musician who does a lot of party music and he’s generally awesome and hilarious. His big hit album was “I Get Wet,” which was released in 2001. I’m not really sure what genre you’d throw it in, but I will say that the Nashville hardcore kids loooooooved Andrew WK. That shit was my JAM in high school!
All his songs are about parties. It’s so awesome haha.

They don’t have it in Brisbane, so I think I am having to get it straight from NZ – phew. I’m absolutely loving your versions of my patterns! I never realized it was hard to source wool knits over your way? Here in NZ you can get Merino knit everywhere…it is such an amazing fabric, warm in the winter, cool in the summer and you can just throw it in the washing machine with everything else..no shrinkage! And yeah, wool knits are hard to get over here! Not sure why (I mean, this is America, after all HAHA), but it’s really lame. I would totally be interested in buying merino knits from you, especially since I could combine them with pattern purchases to make the shipping hurt less. If you can get brighter colors that don’t fall in the pastel range, I think that would definitely be a hit. All I see here (if anything) is stuff like white, lilac and pastel pink. BORING.

This is fantastically beautiful. We do have a great range of merino knit fabrics here but I have to say that I’ve found the cost of the quality merino puts me off quite a bit! I may need to look further afield when winter rolls around. This look has certainly convinced me that knit tops can be warm and stylish and given me some ideas, but it’s too hot right now to contemplate sewing merino!
Definitely check out the selection at Mood – I bought the most gorgeous veridian green and true magenta a while back. Don’t remember the price but it was def. reasonable.

Can you share how you did the hem and tie facing part? I’m in the middle of mine, and super confused. Also, mine turned out too baggy where the raglan sleeve meets the bodice- any suggestions from the papercut master pattern sewist? Ok, that’s totally not a real title, but I thought some flattery might get me some help.
Hmmmm let me think; I don’t have my pattern with me right now so I’m trying to remember how the directions go. I believe you sew the tie facing to the inside of the top, right side out, yes? It took me a minute to wrap my head around it, just pay really close attention to the picture and the indications of right/wrong side of the fabric. Anyway, you just sew the part that connects to the top (leaving the long tie ends free), then fold the long tie ends right sides together and sew those, then turn out to the right side. THEN you’ll flip the rest of the tie band to the right side (on the outside of the top) and fold the seam allowance down and topstitch on the right side. That should enclose everything. If this still sounds confusing (and it probably does, aha), send me an email and I’ll try to take a picture or something!
For the bagginess, that happens with knits, since they’re all various stretchiness. I’d just put it on inside out, pin out the excess, and then sew where I pinned 🙂 Probably not the ~proper~ way to do it, but hey it works!
