Lauren, I am a retired educator from Gallatin….working at Vandy part time now. I really enjoy your blog! I could relate because I just took a trip and was reminded of two things…..people think that we are celebrities because we live in Nashville and Nashville site looks good upon the return home. I hope to meet you someday….maybe at The Fabric Studio!

    • LLADYBIRD August 22, 2014 at 7:25 pm #

Ahh, how fun! I’m from Gallatin too… and staying in Sumner county this week while I’m house sitting 🙂 I would love to meet you as well – we’ve got some fun things planned for The Fabric Studio, so you’ll have to come out 🙂

  2. Caroline Joynson August 22, 2014 at 1:26 pm #

Cool. Lauren in London – I hope I’m free when you decide on the meet-up x x
Sounds like you had an awesome time in NYC and I’m looking forward to NYC episode two!

  4. Aleksandra @ Liveaboard Takes the Suburbs August 22, 2014 at 1:58 pm #

This looks like the best trip ever!

So jelly that you’re going to London. Can I stow away in your luggage? 😛

    • LLADYBIRD August 22, 2014 at 7:26 pm #

Ha! Get in line behind the other stowaways, I guess 😉 You don’t mind sharing with the fabric, do you?? 🙂

  5. ekabby111 August 22, 2014 at 3:21 pm #

Is there still a layover in Chicago on that London Trip? What are we going to dooooooo?

    • LLADYBIRD August 22, 2014 at 7:27 pm #

No Chicago layover this time! DIS BITCH IS GOIN TO CANADA!

But I miss you, so Imma try to plan a lil Chicago getaway because, duh. ♥

I thought you were going to announce that you’re going to NYC again and I rad searching for the Date so May be I can meet up. I realized that it was about your previous trip. Silly me. I wish I could go to London, have fun! Bring some thing warm!

    • LLADYBIRD August 22, 2014 at 7:28 pm #

Haha! Well I am going back again for sure, but probably not until 2015! We’ll have to meet then 🙂 Already planning my coat for London, woohoo!

  7. Fleur August 22, 2014 at 4:48 pm #

Hey! I totally should’ve come into Spandex house with you guys, the powernet (in different weights & colours) etc is all upstairs (at the back) I use it for my bras and any structural wear – a whole other floor of solids. Also thanks for the Bell Witch link… just going to hide under a duvet now.

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:47 am #

I wish you would have! I *think* I found the powernet, but the guy back there was being really dismissive and I was getting overwhelmed so I just left! Haha! I’ll come back next year and buy it, I guess hahaha.

  8. Heather M August 22, 2014 at 6:57 pm #

Hey! So glad you had a great time! The pics look really happy. Great to see all the fabric & sewing passion & look forward to more posts. I was in London for a botanical art tour this spring & walked down a street full of fabric stores – and right next to this porn street! Ha I avoided buying by focusing on my existing inventory (fabric!! I mean).

  9. nicoleneedles August 22, 2014 at 7:12 pm #

Can’t wait to hear about your London plans – definitely up for that!

  10. Amanda August 22, 2014 at 8:52 pm #

It was great seeing you, even if for just a little bit! You’ve got to make it to Central Park one of these visits. I love it there. Oh, and I learned something non-sewing related from you too – cats like cockroaches. Yikes (but handy)!

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:48 am #

It was awesome seeing you too! So glad you could stop by ♥

And yes, my cat is a champion cockroach eater! Sure it’s disgusting, but it’s WAY less disgusting than having to pick up the dead ones myself hahahahaha!

  11. Melissa August 22, 2014 at 9:44 pm #

Of course you would mention the dick fabric! Had such a great time! It was so nice meeting you and the other ladies. Can’t wait till next time!

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:49 am #

The dick fabric was a HIGHLIGHT! I should have bought some haha!

      • Lola (lovelola) August 25, 2014 at 3:43 pm #

Ill send you a yard if you really really want it looool

  12. Denise August 22, 2014 at 10:41 pm #

That looks like it was a blast. Out of curiosity, what are your plans for the reversible double-knit? I have a couple yards of this really beautiful maroon/black double-knit, but I can’t decide what I want to do with it…

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:50 am #

It’s either going to be a Lola sweatshirt dress or an Avocado hoodie! I can only do one or the other with the amount of yardage I bought, so I’m still currently debating.

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:54 am #

YeahaaHHH!!! Wish you were coming with me! 🙂

  17. Heather Lou August 23, 2014 at 11:56 am #

Officially internet outed as a vape-head, HAHAHAHA.

Had so much fun with you my darling. Next time, I come to you and we honky tonk our faces off. xoxoxo

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:54 am #

Damn straight! Get down here and I’ll show you a rip-roaring good Nashville time, starting with Robert’s Western World and ending at Santa’s Pub, haha

    • Lola (lovelola) August 25, 2014 at 3:44 pm #

Is it possible to plan this to coincide so we can all have the hangs together

  18. Thea August 23, 2014 at 12:11 pm #

I totally want to meet you when you’re in London! Must make sure to not book a holiday then… 🙂

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:55 am #

There are sooo many other weeks in November for holiday, you know? 🙂 Hahahahaha

  19. weefrills August 23, 2014 at 8:36 pm #

Ooh, awesome trip! So jealous. And yes, Nashville is good!

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:56 am #

      And Nashville absolutely misses you!

  20. carolinascallin August 24, 2014 at 12:38 am #

Sounds like such a fun trip! Really neat to see what you bought…and that sandwich is enormous! Glad you had fun – can’t wait to read your next posts about your adventures at McCalls and all the rest 🙂

  21. mirza August 24, 2014 at 11:17 am #

Damn, fabric shopping in London sounds like FUN! I might have to book a flight… haha. Any chance you’d stop by in France? it’s just a couple of train stops away… 🙂

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:57 am #

Arghhh I am seriously considering it! It wasn’t even on my radar but now it seems really dumb to go alllll the way to the UK and not stop by Paris for at least a day trip 🙂

  22. Anonymous August 25, 2014 at 6:50 am #

Oh you must go to Liberty of London ! Gemma (UK)

    • LLADYBIRD August 25, 2014 at 7:57 am #

Oh my god, yes! Even if I probably can’t afford to breathe in there lol 🙂

  23. LinB August 25, 2014 at 9:11 am #

Dick fabric. Huh. I never expected to see those two words together. Was it a sleazy and nasty or all-natural fabrication?

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:17 am #

You know it was some kind of sleezy stretch polyester blend. Although (FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE), I was too afraid to touch it to confirm :B

  24. anothersewingscientist August 25, 2014 at 11:28 am #

Hello love! I don’t blog very often, and I’ve been too busy to even check my stats for a while, but just noticed that I had a huge spike in views on August 22nd, and was wondering what the hell was up with that?!? Checked the data, and it’s from this post link! Hahahaha! What one little mention on your blog will do fer a gurl.

Man……now I really wish I had bought that dick fabric. In both colourways. It would make the most awesome Nettie. And by awesome, I mean hellishly, pornographically awful. 😉

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:19 am #

Ha! Well you better start blogging more, because I need to be able to lurk on your sewing life 🙂

Also, I wish you would have bought some of that dick fabric! Man! We could have started a dick cult and that could have been the start to our uniforms haha

  25. Sarah Edwards August 25, 2014 at 12:54 pm #

So lucky to be visiting New York in January, and hope to be spending LOTS of time in the Garment District (especially in Mood!)
Love reading your blog…so inspiring! Hope to meet up when you come to London 😊 X

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:20 am #

Yay! Make sure you bring a list of fabrics-wants when you get to the Garment District – that place can be overwhelming with all the choices!

Also, yess I hope we get to meet up while I”m in London too! 🙂

  26. Amy August 25, 2014 at 1:48 pm #

I know this dick fabric you speak of and I have seen someone wearing leggings made out of it!! They were really…bold. Your trip sounds amazing and it’s too bad they didn’t let you keep the Ralph Rucci coat!

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:21 am #

MY GOD, i wish you would have taken photos! Ha! That sounds so awesome!!

  27. Lola (lovelola) August 25, 2014 at 3:40 pm #

ADSKFLSJGSJOGKSGKSL!!! that was me when we met for coffee and breakfast. I was just too New York cool to show it. GAH! I have to make my way down to Nashville so you can show me around and we can eat hot chicken. Next time you’re up here we’ll definitely get you around to some more eateries and a bike ride.

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:23 am #

Haha!! You are like 1000x cooler than me in like every possible way 🙂 Pleaseeee come to Nashville! You can stay in my sewing room and we will drink Yazoo beer and eat hot chicken 🙂 Yess!! Next time I’m in NYC I want you to take me on a bikey ride – I’m now super super terrified to do it on my own after our conversation, but I’m comfortable if I have a biking buddy 🙂

  28. Tamsinwp August 25, 2014 at 5:09 pm #

Wow – you’re coming to London! Would love to meet up when you’re here!

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:23 am #

Yay! I’ll post details of the meet-up as soon as I figure things out 🙂

  29. Basya August 26, 2014 at 8:05 am #

Lauren, thank you for sharing your visit with us. If not for you, I’d still be mistaken that the Big Four are big.

I want Vogue 1419 now. Am I delusional, or is there really no standard sleeve-and-armhole business happening there?

    • LLADYBIRD August 26, 2014 at 9:26 am #

I thought the same thing until last week! I’m just happy to get my facts straight and be able to share the knowledge with everyone else 🙂

1419 is such an awesome pattern! The sleeve-to-armhole deal is mostly because how the coat is cut (once i get my pattern I’ll look at it more closely, but I”m pretty sure that thing didn’t have any side seams!), especially with the long kimono sleeves. It does hang better on me than it did on the model – even though we are wearing the same coat. I imagine if you made it out of something less stiff – like a soft wool with a good amount of body (which is what I have in mind for mine), the folds and hanging arm hole would be less obvious.

  30. trellism August 28, 2014 at 4:25 pm #

One place I recommend is Crescent Trading, off Brick Lane. It’s full of amazing, mostly British woolens, silks and other things. It’s the last vestige of the old textile trade in that area of East London.

    • LLADYBIRD August 28, 2014 at 4:51 pm #

Ooh, that sounds AMAZING. i’ll have to check it out for sure! Thank you so much for the tip!
