Me Made May – Week 3 Roundup

18 May

Sorry for the radio silence this week, peepz. I have been house/dog sitting since Thursday night, which means I have not had access to my sewing machine for almost a week! I opted to not bring it with me since there was just so much stuff to carry around (and plus, I make giant messes when I sew ahaha), figuring I would just knit instead. Spoiler alert: didn’t get much knitting done either. Whoops! Anyway, I’m back at home now so hopefully I can get some sewing done over the weekend, maybe 🙂 I miss it so much!

5-12
5/12
Top: Sewaholic Renfrew (unblogged, sorry!)
Jeans: Vogue 2925
Shoes: Walmart
This is basically the same outfit as Friday – I had cute stuff packed, but it ended up being really cold & rainy so I stuck with jeans for the second day in a row.

5-13
5/13 – Mother’s Day!
Dress: Actually, this is two pieces… the dress made me look like a box, so I separated the skirt from the top & sewed white elastic for the skirt waistband. I can wear them together or separately, woohoo.
Cardigan: Agatha – my first sweater 🙂
Belt: Thrifted
Necklace: Fire Finch (Nashville)
Shoes: Walmart (man those things are filthy… I should wash them)
This is me & my mommy, in her sewing room. Isn’t she so pretty?! Love her 🙂

5-14
5/14
Top: Yardsale
Skirt: Style 1568; it’s supposed to be culottes but it looked awful in this linen/cotton blend (too stiff), so I converted it into a skirt. The linen would also explain why it is wrinkled as fuq – I swear I ironed the night before!
Cardigan: Thrifted – ended up wearing it tied (like how I have it on 5/15) after this picture was taken.
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Nine West
Earrings: Thrifted
Brooch: Flea market – it’s a skunk holding a flower ahaha

5-15
5/15
Dress: Colette Patterns Peony
Cardigan: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Rose Brooch: Crocheted by me 🙂
Shoes: Target

5-16
5/16
Top: Thrifted, altered to fit by me
Skirt: Thrifted – it was originally a child’s dress. I cut the bodice off & replaced the busted shirring at the waistband. Insta-skirt!
Cardigan: Agatha
Belt: Thrifted
Scarf (worn at neck): Vintage
Shoes: Target

5-17
5/17
Dress: Colette Patterns Ceylon
Shoes: Nine West

5-18
5/18 (today!)
Top: Colette Patterns Sorbetto
Skirt: Colette Patterns Ginger
Belt: Thrifted (holy shit I wear this belt a lot lol)
Shoes: Target kids
Necklace: Flea market

ALSO, today was Bike to Work Day… don’t worry, I managed to wear something Me-Made 🙂
5-18 - before work
5/18, pre-work
Tshirt: Stenciled & resized by me
Pants: Lululemon (obviously not Me-Made, but I wrote a review on ’em if you are interested!
Shoes: Converse
It gets very hot/humid here, so I brought a change of clothes for the office haha 🙂 Oh, and I guess you could also consider my basket Me-Made – it started out as a purse from the thrift store, I just cut the handles off & zip-tied it to my bike. Baskets are expensive!

As a side/non-sewing note, Bike to Work Day was really awesome!
Bike To Work Day
There was a great turnout

Bike To Work Day
I mean, really forreal

Bike To Work Day
Tons of food & drinks (including coffee, yeeeeeah)

Bike To Work Day
The mayor even showed up to talk to us 🙂

Bike To Work Day
The best part, though, was having cycling partners on the commute 😀

Did anyone else bike to work today?

Love your outfits! Especially your peony, the turquoise linen skirt (I swear if you sneeze near linen it wrinkles), and your Agatha cardi. Yay!

    • LLADYBIRD May 18, 2012 at 11:21 am #

Man, that’s the one thing I hate about linen – the wrinkling drives me crazy. It seems to focus on appearing right over my butt/where I sit, too, which is just totally attractive lol

I just love your style! Your are so creative when it comes to making thrifted items your own. I know I’ve said it before but I am absolutely in love with the denim Ginger skirt. I def need to add this to my list!

    • LLADYBIRD May 18, 2012 at 11:20 am #

You should make one! I’m pretty sure this skirt gets the most wear out of everything I own – handmade or not. It’s so versatile, and the shape really keeps it from looking terribly casual. And it wears like a champion haha 🙂

    Your bike basket rocks!

  4. Melizza May 18, 2012 at 11:28 am #

You had quite the Colette garment week! Love it!

  5. Maddie May 18, 2012 at 11:38 am #

I love that you’re wearing tennis shoes with the striped dress on Mother’s Day. Love! Who cares if they’re filthy. That’s make them that much better!

I am officially obsessed with your entire style, talent, and complete wardrobe. STOP IT! Not to mention the pic of downtown witht he biker in the road instantly made me want to move back to Nash. So thanks alot A-Hole. Lol. Miss you. Make me a dress!!! 🙂 xoxoxo

  7. Casey May 18, 2012 at 12:04 pm #

Love all your outfits!! (Your mom is gorgeous, btw! 🙂 I think my favorites are 5/14 and 5/16… I just love your use of color in these outfits. It seems like half my clothes are falling apart lately (I’m pretty hard on my wardrobe 😉 and need some inspiration for adding some new colors into the mix!

  8. Katy May 18, 2012 at 12:16 pm #

These are all great, colourful outfits. You know how to make your handmade items look good! That bike to work event looks awesome – what a great idea!!

  9. Andrea May 18, 2012 at 12:30 pm #

Eep, I’m currently housesitting, too, but I actually lugged my sewing machine AND serger over there because it’s a 10-day job. They don’t have internet or cable so I think I’d actually go insane if I couldn’t sew during that time period. I’ll just have to hunt down their vacuum cleaner to get rid of the thready evidence. Anyway, nice outfits!! Very colorful and cute.

Fun, flattering outfits! The dress-that-looks-like-a-dress-but-is-really-two-pieces is great. I’ve been thinking about doing something like that, for more mix & matching versatility.

  11. leahfranqui May 18, 2012 at 2:43 pm #

I love these outfits! And I did bike to work today, just like to do EVERY day! Love lululemon, wish I could afford more of it…

i love the idea of wearing a cardigan tied— i definitely need to try that! and i TOTALLY biked to work today butttt it’s always a lonely ride since i work at a bakery, i am pretty sure i was already at work for like an hour and a half before any of the nashville rides even started! but it’s a short commute and i get to see the beginning of the sunrise every morning so no complaints here =]

    • LLADYBIRD May 18, 2012 at 4:06 pm #

Hold up, because this entire comment is just so exciting – you work in a BAKERY? And you live in Nashville?? Uhmmm can we be best friends please? 🙂 Haha! Also – as a Nashville cyclist, I must point you to Let’s Go Ride A Bike! if you aren’t already familiar with it. We have monthly Sunday bike brunches & would love to have you if you feel so inclined 🙂

      • Kitty Cat Stevens May 21, 2012 at 9:45 pm #

uhmmm, we can totally be best friends! i had seen LGRAB before but didn’t realize one of the ladies behind it lives in nashville— so exciting! i just moved here to pursue baking full time and i am loving it! still working on getting settled in but once i’m not spending every waking second unpacking and doing boring adult things then i would LOVE to meet up for a bike brunch! i have mostly been riding only to commute so i am about ready to get out and learn the city streets. i’ll make sure to find you on twitter so we can stay connected =]

  13. sallie May 18, 2012 at 4:42 pm #

Adorable!! You just have such a sweet style. Also, I want those Nine West white platforms. I biked to work today!! But I bike everyday… does that still count?

    • LLADYBIRD May 18, 2012 at 4:43 pm #

I’m jealous of y’all who bike every day! My route is about 6 miles, super hilly, and kind of perilous due to rush hour. I can’t handle biking more than a couple of days a week, and even less when it’s mad hot outside.

  14. Alicia Charlberg May 18, 2012 at 6:06 pm #

I live in San Francisco and Bike to Work Day was last Thursday. I biked then, but not today. Props for all the outfits, but I have to say that I love, love, love your Ceylon and handknit cardi! (Filed away in my head as future project inpirations.)
Aaaannndddddd… you are ever-so-awesome for that last t-shirt!!! I did the same for Halloween 1998 but wore a green hair ribbon too, of course. After thinking it over for 7 years, I finally got that flower tattooed on my lower back in 2000. Hello, tramp stamp! Oh well, it still brings me so much joy that I don’t care that’s all other people see when they look at it now. Definitely remains one of my fave albums and shaped who I am today!

    • LLADYBIRD May 19, 2012 at 12:56 pm #

Haha! I’m glad you like the tshirt & I’m extra glad that you get the reference 🙂 That’s an awesome Halloween costume, I may have to rip you off 🙂

And I definitely have thought about getting the flower tattooed somewhere too – thought about it for years! It’s one of my favorite bands+album too 😀 But I don’t know where I would put it… maybe squish it into a sleeve if I ever get that far along. Oh well, the tshirt works for now haha.

  15. Rochelle New May 18, 2012 at 6:29 pm #

You mama is very beautiful indeed! That’s so awesome she is in to sewing too 🙂 My mom is the one who got me in to sewing. I think it’s neat to carry on the tradition.

  16. Neeno May 19, 2012 at 2:03 am #

You have such amazing style! My fav outfit is the 15 may outfit, I love that dress! All ur other outfits highly rocked but I think this outfit is fav cos of how u wore the sweater looks so darn good!!! And ur mum is gorgeous xo

  17. stefpulls May 19, 2012 at 3:49 am #

I love your outfits, especially the giant-check gingham!
I try to cycle to work as much as I can, which means three miles on a scary dual carriageway in English weather. Luckily we have a gym with awesome showers at work, so more often than not I leave the house unwashed in workout clothes. Works for me 🙂

  18. annaintechnicolor May 19, 2012 at 10:16 am #

Lovely outfits all around! And I’ve thought about biking to school, but both the cars (and bicyclists!) here in Seattle are so crazy. Much safer to just walk or take the bus. I suppose that still is being green, though . . .

  19. Noa May 19, 2012 at 11:02 am #

Hola!!!

  20. gingermakes May 21, 2012 at 12:59 pm #

Aww, your mom is so cute! And Bike to Work Day looks so fun! I bike to work on days when I know I’ll be in the office all day (I buzz around a lot for work, and it’s kind of unpredictable), but I always feel kinda disheveled and sweaty. :/

  21. Miss Celie May 22, 2012 at 6:48 am #

I bought those lululemon pants on sale. I schlepped all the way to Annapolis for them (a 40 minute drive). It was worth it! I also wore mine for Bike to Work day. I also got the blazer (also on sale). It was mostly your review that convinced me. I figured if you as a sewist liked them, then they might be worth it.

    • LLADYBIRD May 22, 2012 at 8:41 am #

Oooh, I’m so glad my review was helpful! I love them too – I would absolutely buy another pair if I could afford it. I’m jealous you got the blazer because I really want it haha!

  22. Scruffy Badger May 25, 2012 at 5:37 am #

I so love seeing you wearing all your pretty things, & Agatha is getting lots of use. You look too cute for words. I wish I could bike it more, but living on top of a humumgous hill (no kidding) only makes one way fun, & the other too hard, hot & just plain difficult for me ….sorry late commenting, am catching up slowly 🙂

  23. theperfectnose June 1, 2012 at 12:01 am #

The gingham dress and refashioned skirt are my favourites.
