well, it’s done and ready to wear! i actually finished this coat on thanksgiving day (really – i was sitting at the table, furiously tacking down the red lace hem while my mom was reheating the honeybaked ham
), but wasn’t able to get any pictures until this past weekend. my pictures are terrible but they are better than not having any pictures!
a couple teasers to remind you of what we’re dealing with:

lady grey pattern

bound buttonhole & sparkly button
this is the true color of the coat – my other pictures are a bit off.
more after the cut!

i LOVE the shaping, especially in the back! all that interfacing paid off

there is a little gape at the lapels but it’s nbd

yay lining!
as i’ve previously mentioned, the red lace @ the bottom is because there was a discrepancy with the pattern so the lining & shell fabric did not match up at the bottom. i couldn’t find any turquoise or silver lace, so i went with a contrast! i love red and turquoise!
i would tally up the total amount $$$ i spent on the this coat, but i honestly don’t really want to know. i’d guess around $250, though. not to mention hours and hours of sewing & hand sewing and PADSTITCHING!!
but it was all worth it, y/y?

Do discrepancies like that happen often in patterns?
all the time. the big 4 (simplicity, vogue, mccall’s & butterick) are the worst offenders. smaller companies generally pay more attention to details like that, although i guess not everyone can be perfect like us
haha
Love the coat and the tattoo. The lace contrast and sparkly button make such a statement.
This fabric I’ve been drooling over has the tomato/strawberry pincushion on it:

that is really cute fabric! aw now i want to make an ironing board cover out of it
It looks AMAZING. A few weeks ago I read all of your posts on this project & the amount of work that went into this is ASTOUNDING. I love the high quality fabrics and techniques you always use, it makes me gleeful!
oh, thank you! this comment made me blush
haha
That coat is lovely! I bought a gorgeous piece of lavender wool to make a winter coat, but haven’t found the right pattern yet. Maybe this one?
About all that padstitching….I took a tailoring class many years ago, and made a lovely jacket. It became my ‘Pub’ jacket as it could spend an evening crumpled up in a ball, then with a quick shake, still look presentable. That was thanks to all the padstitches and other handstitching I did (including the satin-stitch onogram on the front facing). So its worth it!
thank you! i think the pattern would look amaazing in lavender wool. so pretty for spring!!
i loved doing all the weird tailoring stuff… it takes forever, but it makes such a difference!
you are adorable, lady! that coat looks lovely.
♥ thank you!
You did a brilliant job!
I love this coat and can’t wait to make one for myself…maybe next winter.
thank you! i definitely recommend the pattern – even if you decide not to go the full tailoring route, it is still very lovely!
